Mother's Day Gift Crafting

Mother's Day is around the corner. We are so lucky to have a holiday in Spring to celebrate!  Its a beautiful season for birth and rebirth. There are so many ways each mom and family likes to honor the lovely females in their lives.  I like to spend time with my little ones doing something out of the ordinary hustle of weekend chores and try to be mindful of the present moment, especially with kids growing up right before my eyes. I like yearly holidays to remind me of where I was at this time last year and how much love, joy and WORK we trudged through to get to the point where we are now. The sewing classes are now a daily part of our lives. I worked late last night whipping up some examples of crafts for our Mother's Day Parties. And before all running out the door this morning - my husband to the bus, my son to preschool - we took a few pictures to share with you.

Upcycled jersey necklace.

We made these in the Jersey Fashionista craft party.
Every since having kids I find wearing jewelry to be tricky. Though I really love jewelry because they really do add personal flair to an outfit. Nowadays I only wear the things I never take off - my wedding bands, my nose piercing, and a necklace I bought with my husband in Ireland. These jersey necklaces and felt embroidered earrings are a gift to myself!  I dont have to worry about them breaking.  I did have a string of vintage pearls on Declan's first Easter only to have him tug once on them sending the little pearls scattered under every piece of furniture.  Most of my jewelry is too sharp or hard for snuggles - or mama-as-jungle-gym.  I am not attending any fancy or corporate affairs so these pieces walk the right line of casual but fun that can be worn with leggings or jeans and easily tossed on or off. Since I am designing them myself I can choose colors that coordiante with what I wear most often. Which honestly is a small rotation of outfits I dont have to think about.
I forgot to smile! But I love these earrings.

Ciara in felt barrett. And jersey necklace she promptly took from me after my photo.

I also love that I am learning crafts I can design for grownups or kids using the same techniques but different materials. It was nice to take a break from all the pink in my life and do the navy necklace and grey earrings. I do want to make teen approved and grown women felt barrets - maybe with beading?

I still have to finish a present for my mother. Stay tuned. It looks like we are in store for beautiful weather this week so it will be harder to take time for crafting!
